Zumba®: Fitness Party I

After the oBOXx team has been sitting in front of their computers all day, they’re ready for some exercise. Joann especially enjoys Zumba Fitness® because it involves dancing and Marie likes swimming because it is invigorating.

Albany Irvin and Joann Mercer before class at ACAC

Joann, an avid participant in Zumba at the  ACAC  Fitness and Wellness Center in West Chester, loves attending class with Albany Irvin, an on-air program host for QVC since 2009. After a recent class, Albany shared with Joann and Marie why she is so enthusiastic about Zumba Fitness and how this led to her upcoming program Zumba® Fitness: A Live Studio Audience Presentation at QVC Studio Park in West Chester at 11:00 am on April 7th. The oBOXx team will be in the studio audience.

Zumba Fitness,® introduced in 2001, is the world’s largest and most popular dance-fitness program. According to Zumba Fitness®, more than 10 million people of all shapes, sizes, and ages take weekly Zumba® classes in over 90,000 locations across more than 110 countries. Their motto is “ditch the workout and join the fun.”

This week, QVC visited ACAC to film the Wednesday evening Zumba class and interview Albany. Click to view Albany’s 2-minute YouTube Zumba Video.

About oboxxblog

Forced to think outside the box when they were downsized from their jobs at large pharmaceutical companies in the spring of 2010, Joann Mercer and Marie Tartaglio formed a writing partnership. Whether it was coincidence, serendipity, fate, or a shared passion for words, Joann and Marie combined their writing skills and learning expertise to create oBOXx, LLC. Joann and Marie first met as freshman in high school. With careers, marriages, and the birth of children, they lost touch over the years. They met again briefly in 1999 when they worked together in the Learning and Development department at AstraZeneca. With their lives full and busy, they drifted in and out of touch over the next decade until 2010 when a downturn in the economy found them both out of work and job searching through the same employment agency. They discovered that, over the years, they had nurtured their high school passion for writing. (Their English teachers are so proud!) Independently, Joann and Marie were traveling parallel paths in creating writing. From there, it was a logical leap to form a writing partnership. This outside-the-box solution to finding work in a down turned economy gave birth to oBOXx, LLC and their journey to a best seller.

A few years ago I was introduced to Zumba during Fall Family Weekend at West Virginia University. I loved how the Latin beat of the music fooled me into thinking, “Hey, this is way too much fun to be exercise!” I am so happy Zumba now has been added to the fitness schedule at my local gym!

I’ve been following QVC on TV since they first came on the air about 25 years ago. Almost every day, I switch on the TV and check out the QVC channel. I love the on-air hosts, especially Jane Tracey. I know Albany Irvin is new but I’ve seen her too. I’ll be sure to tune in at 11 o’clock on April 7th to see this event. Sounds interesting.

This article is inspiring me to get back into Zumba. Due to my busy schedule I have not been to a class in a while. I remember how good it made me feel and how great it made me look. It a great stress reliever for me.
